Shaun Escoffery and Avery*Sunshine. Two amazing vocalists who both have more than a touch of gospel in their soul. The UK’s Shaun Escoffery – a singer with a glorious Curtis Mayfield/Isleys falsetto – whose classic hits “Space Rider” and “Days Like This” are enjoyed by clubgoers worldwide, is back with a stunning new album “In The Red Room” which combines gospel-tinged power – as on the single “Nature’s Call” – with soulful subtlety. He began recording at the age of 17 with D-Influence and along the way has enjoyed the support of Elton John and one of his oldest friends, actor Idris Elba, who has contributed a remix of lead single “Nature’s Call
”Avery*Sunshine burst onto the UK music scene in 2010 with her debut album and the soul-shaking single “I Got Sunshine”, a firm favourite at BBC Radio 2. A stunning performance on Later…with Jools Holland prompted guest Ringo Starr to enthuse, when interviewed on the show, “Well, we can all use a little more Sunshine”. Two sold-out shows at London’s Union Chapel were followed by a Royal Albert Hall date opening for BB King.Based in Atlanta, where for several years she has been the choir director at the renowned Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Dr Martin Luther King Jr preached, Avery returned to the studio this year and delivered her second album “The Sun Room”, which includes the Al Green-flavoured single “Love (Won’t You Try)” and the up-tempo stomper “Time To Shine”.“
‘In The Red Room’ has mileage and will most definitely become an all time classic…after a seven-year absence Shaun has dropped a great album” – Soul M8“With nothing more than a guitar accompanist, her two hands at the piano and a jazzy gospel voice that could loosen bricks from their mortar, Avery lit the Lincoln Center up in record time” – New York Times
