I’ve always been into music from way back; I can remember my parents, who were
born in the West Indies, playing their favourite reggae records when I was a boy
which set me on my way to my love of music.
In the early seventies I was heavily into the root reggae scene, between the years
I979 to I983 I followed Ska and two-tone music and then the Soul scene. I
would go to Oscar’s in Gants Hill, Bentley’s in Canning town, the old Lyceum,
Horse-shoe in Tottenham Court Road, Busby’s in the West end, Lacy Ladies and
the llford Palais when ever possible.
It was about this time I started my vinyl record collect, which I still have to this day.
I would spend many an hour searching through records in Sergeant Pepper’s in
East I-lam, Bluebird’s in Paddington, Groove records Holborn and Daddy Cool off
of Oxford St.
It was then I started trying my hand as a DJ, I would go to the local youth club and
play my records, wherever or whenever asked I’d be there honing my performance
l do try to attend most soul Weekenders so I guess really I’m still a punter at heart
and love the soul scene‘ Recently I‘ve been organising a few events for a charitable
cause, Havens Hospice, under the All About the Music banner and privileged to
have worked with some amazing Dl’s.
Who knows maybe one day you’ll see me at some event, be sure to say hello.
Take care and love the music because The Smurf say soul
