The Wah Concept … The Wah Way
The ‘Wah Mama’ is really a representation of mother nature comprising of everything and everyone,
a holistic approach, which is reflected in the diversity of the wah wah music; nujazz, neosoul, latinacoustic,
alternative dance, electro and authentic hip hop all under the banner ‘Eclectic Soul’.
‘Cry Baby Soul’ Album background
The album is a completely independent project with all associated artists agreeing to work with the
Wah Wah simply as a form of expression. From the early 00’s till the late-00’s the wah wah grew
connections within the broken-beat indie scene building good relationships with dj’s and radio. In
this scene stem the majority of artists they worked with on the album.
Band Logistics:
Georgeyo – Songwriter, Keyboards (Fender Rhodes), Vocals, Beat programming (main producer)
Mathieu Karsenti – Songwriter, Acoustic Guitar, Vocals, Percussion
Sanya Lerin (The Wah Mama) – Songwriter, Lead Vocalist, Backing Vocalist, Project Support
The Elusive – Songwriter, Beat and Software Programming, Vocals, Song Arrangement and Executive
Producer
The eclectic flavour of the album stems from the various backgrounds of the members. The Elusive
(Naj Okena) started off in the music industry with Sanctuary Management working on accounts for
legendary rock band Iron Maiden and Bruce Dickinson. In recent years Naj has been involved in XFactor
releases (Bada Badoo) and generating awareness for the golden age UK hip hop scene
releasing albums and ep’s for 1990’s UK hip hop acts (e.g. MCM). Naj has also worked within the
Italian underground electronica scene with dance acts on his label roster. Naj set up The Wah Wah
Collective in 2003 with Georgeyo (main producer) whose background originates from nu-soul/jazz
working with the likes of King-Britt, DJ Supreme, N’dea Davenport, Charlie Dark (Attica Blues), Fyza
Saleh and more recently artists on the Futuristic Music label.
Mathieu Karsenti joined the collective later in 2003 providing an acoustic soul background. Mathieu
under his own Soulem Productions has produced a number of modern Soul, Hip-Hop and Pop acts:
Azu, Marcel McCalla, Hugo, Albie J (X Factor), Jesse Gamage, Saba, Motolani K, Mo Molokwu,
Carlos Budd Ford and Richard Davis. Female member of the group Sanya Lerin originally from a
stage acting background is a more recent addition to the Wah Wah Collective. She is the Wah
Mama. The Wah Mama is an adaptation of the Wah Wah logo originally designed by Georgeyo.
The album showcases many songs of which were only released on vinyl or were never released by
The Wah Wah Collective. A 10 song album was originally planned to be released in late 2008 but
unfortunately due to the liquidation of Pinnacle and Goya Music who held the vinyl stock the indie
label ‘Greasy Geezers’ financing the project ceased business. After pursuing solo music projects over
several years it was felt in 2012 that finally the album should be completed. The album also features
re-mastered songs from live sessions and new material making it a 15 song album in 2014.
Cry Baby Soul: The Album
Cry Baby Soul as a play on words refers to the crying ‘wah sound’ of the wah wah pedal – see album
artwork by Rob Cheatley. It represents the fender rhodes sound performed by Georgeyo that is
present throughout the album. The album displays a journey from classic neo-soul in to a Latin
dance influenced experience, then finally transcending in to hip hop and eclectic alternative dance.

‘Cry Baby Soul’ is the first album offering from The Wah Wah Collective. A gathering of previous vinyl only releases mixed with unreleased songs from the now London based group. The eclectic flavour of the album stems from the various backgrounds of the members. The Elusive started off in the music industry with Sanctuary Management working on accounts for legendary rock band Iron Maiden and set up the band with main composer Georgeyo originally a nusoul/dance producer. Adding to the group is UK TV music songwriter Mathieu Karsenti. In recent years The Elusive has also worked within the Italian underground electronica scene with dance acts on the I-innovate label roster such as The Big Game who provided production support on the Cry Baby Soul album. In 2013 The Big Game supported EDM specialists Midnight Conspiracy and Leroy Thornhill (The Prodigy) on special dance events in Italy.
